DREAMSPACE JURY DISCHARGED

The Jury at Newcastle Crown Court has failed to reach a verdict in the manslaughter trial of Mr Maurice Agis, creator of the artistic phenomenon Dreamspace. The Jury was discharged by Mrs Justice Cox on 25th February and a retrial will be considered.
Throughout the trial and for some months preceding it, Dr John McCullough and Mr Iain Hall of Cadogans provided considered engineering and scientific advice to the barristers and solicitors defending Mr Agis.
Dreamspace, a very large inflatable structure broke from its moorings at Chester-le-Street in July 2006. Tragically, two people died and several others were injured during the incident.
The CPS/HSE brought a charge of gross negligence, amounting to manslaughter, against Mr Agis. The four week trial began on 26th January 2009; during which no evidence was called for the defence.
Cadogans hit the headlines

Cadogans’ Chairman, Dr John McCullough, has been in the news this week as he presented evidence to a Fatal Accident Inquiry in Lerwick, Shetland Islands.
The inquiry concerns the death of a Shetland joiner.
One report quoted Dr McCullough as stating that "a defect in a canister of expanding foam was the most likely cause of it exploding and kiling a Shetland builder".

In a further commentary on the matter, it was reported thatt Dr McCullough said "problems at the factory was the only thing left open to him to consider as a likely cause".

Cadogans MD honoured at Energy Institute Autumn Lunch

Cadogans’ Managing Director, Roddy Wilkie was presented with an Award of Council at the Autumn Lunch on the 21st October 2008 by the Energy Institute’s Chief Executive, Louise Kingham.
The Award of Council is the highest award which the Council can make. Roddy received his award after completing almost 20 years of service to the Energy Institute -on the Scottish Branch Committee and on Council. He served on the Council of the former Institute of Energy (latterly as Honorary Secretary) prior to its merger with the Institute of Petroleum in 2000 and subsequently as an elected Ordinary Member of Council of the Energy Institute. During that time he served on the HRM and Finance Committees. Roddy Wilkie stood down at the AGM in June of this year but will continue his involvement via the South of Scotland Branch Committee.
Cadogan staff update

Cadogans aims for continuous improvement of its service to clients. Part of this is achieved by increasing staff expertise so we set a high priority on training and staff development. In this context we are pleased to announce two staff achievements.
David McIntyre has recently been elected a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and an Associate Member of the Institute of Arbitrators. He is continuing his personal development by studying part-time for an LLM in construction law at the University of Strathclyde.
Karen McNeill has been working hard and has been awarded a NEBOSH certificate in Health and Safety. She is now progressing towards the Diploma. We hope that a further staff member will undertake the NEBOSH course as well. .

Environmental Review Completed
Cadogans have checked and updated thei internal environmental improvements as noted in our Social and Environmental Review.To see the whole review, please click here.
Some of the significant improvements include:
- A reduction in paper consumption of 80% since 2001.
- Since last year, the CO2 emissions from travel have reduced from 27.4 tonnes to 10.85 tonnes.

Cadogans Moves to prestigious new Glasgow address
Cadogans have moved to the prestigious new address of Blythswood Square in Glasgow as of 1st December 2007.
The new open plan offices reflect the confidence the company has in its future prospects following what has been an exceptionally good year for the company.

Cadogans expertise helps "brings new life to River Cart"
Inchinnan Bridge bascule bridge, for which Cadogans were responsible for the mechanical upgrades and floodlighting, is now allowing commercial cargo back to a Scottish River for the first time.

Cadogan Consultants wins training prize
Training staff and keeping our skills base up to date is essential to us. For several years we have received training grants from the Royal Academy of Engineering which have supplemented our own investment in staff development.
