Experience Jeffery Smith has nearly 40 years experience in the structure of buildings especially housing. He established his own consultancy, Jeffery Smith and Associates, in 1984. He has prepared about 800 reports on defective buildings including complete estates. His clients range from individual leaseholders and freeholders to the owners of Quaker Meeting Houses and television companies at the site of the Olympics in 2012. He has a keen interested in architecture, old and new, and has extensive experience in their repair and sensitive alteration. Much of his early work was for the Building Performance Group formerly part of The National Building Agency, now part of the Building Research Establishment. This included remedial design for issues including subsidence, poorly braced and defective roofs, corrosion of incorporated steel, inadequate cavity wall ties and incorrect alterations. In some cases he has acted as an expert witness in the matter. For a period in the 1980s he was a senior engineer with Alan Baxter & Associates.
